The first "Meta" artificial intelligence developer conference will be held tonight

Meta's first artificial intelligence developer conference, called "LlamaCon 2025," will be held tonight.

Description

The conference, called LlamaCon, inspired by the Llama family of AI models, will take place tonight, Tuesday, April 29.

After years of the open-source Llama AI model being only part of Meta’s Connect conferences, the company is now looking to host a developer conference entirely focused on AI.

The event is entirely virtual, and everyone can watch it live on the Meta for Developers Facebook page.

Meta says it plans to showcase its latest advances in open-source AI to help developers build amazing apps and products.

Meta adopted an open-source approach to developing AI technologies several years ago in an effort to power an ecosystem of apps and platforms. It hasn't been revealed how many apps or services have been built on it, but companies including Goldman Sachs, Nomura Holdings, AT&T, DoorDash, and Accenture have previously been noted to use Llama.

Meta claims that its Llama AI model has been downloaded hundreds of millions of times and is hosted by at least 25 companies, including Nvidia, Databricks, Dell, and Snowflake. Some of these companies have built additional hardware that allows the models to access proprietary data and run with lower latency.

The LlamaCon conference will begin tonight at 8:30 PM Iranian time with keynotes from Chris Cox, Meta's Chief Product Officer, Manohar Paluri, Meta's Vice President of Artificial Intelligence, and Angela Fan, Research Scientist.

The talks will cover developments in the company’s open-source AI community, the latest Llama models and tools, and provide a glimpse into AI features that have yet to be released.

The keynote will then be delivered at 9:15 PM ET between Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi on building AI-powered applications.

Then, a few hours later at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, a chat about the latest trends in artificial intelligence between Zuckerberg and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella follows.

It doesn't look like any breaking news will emerge from either conversation, but Microsoft and Meta have worked together before, so anything is possible.
